My name is Rick Keating-Fedders. I live in Suffolk and I have been weaving willow baskets for the past few years. I enjoy the craft. For me, the satisfaction that comes from weaving willow baskets is quite varied. It involves a blend of creativity, skill development, a connection to nature, and a sense of accomplishment. Completing a willow basket, especially if it’s a complex or intricate design, can be incredibly rewarding. It is a tangible representation of my time, effort, and creativity. There is great satisfaction as well by knowing I am using sustainable materials. Working with willow provides a strong connection to nature and a sense of using a renewable and native resource. I likewise find the process of weaving to be meditative and relaxing. It is a way to escape from the stresses of daily life and focus on a creative, hands-on and mindful activity.
